Position Summary:
With minimal supervision, plans, develops and coordinates engineering projects for algae Research, Pilot and Production facilities for their infrastructure processes to provide water, CO2, extraction systems and equipment. Provides general engineering support for facility and assists operations with maintenance processes and practices.
Position Location: Fort Collins, CO
Responsibilities:
- Works closely with customers and internal engineering and biology staff to set requirements for water, CO2, and extraction systems for integrated algal growth systems.
- Provide system engineering and technical direction to establish plant reliability, efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide system engineering and technical direction to develop water, CO2 and Extraction systems to support algal growth systems, biocrude and coproduct production from research to production scale.
- Provide technical expertise and assistance in general engineering and maintenance processes.
- Manage projects such as (but not limited to) water treatment facilities, growth system equipment, extraction equipment, CO2 processing, general systems additions and retrofits.
- Work with technical staff to create and implement standard preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
- Assist with operational improvements.
- Lead or assist in system prove out and commissioning.
- Work with supplier partners to bring outside expertise to assist in system design and equipment supply
Desirable knowledge and experience:
- Some knowledge of Biology
- International experience or knowledge
- Knowledge of natural gas field operations, power plants and water treatment equipment
- Experience working in remote locations
Required Education:
BS in engineering from or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience and skills:
A minimum of 10 years related industry experience required including:
- Water and wastewater treatment design and construction
- Oil and gas processing and/or power plant design and construction with specific emphasis in exhaust/effluent gas systems.
- Chemical based extraction systems.
- Project management, including budget tracking and hurdles involved in scaling from research to production.
- Engineering with supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams under tight timelines.
- Experience creating and interpreting process documentation (Block-Flow, P&ID, electrical schematics, engineering standards).
- Demonstrated skill in developing and evaluating designs for short and long term use.
- Knowledge of water chemistry.
- Knowledge of gas chemistry applications (Air, CO2, Methane, H2S and other NG field gasses).
- Knowledge of pipeline hydraulics and pump design.
- Knowledge of AC power circuits (480 VAC and below).
- Knowledge of Environmental Regulations and processes.
- Experience with AutoCAD in Plant Design and supporting Industry Standards.
Education:
BS in engineering from or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Plants may be located extended distance from populous areas over primitive road conditions
- Physical requirements for this work includes but is not limited to: keyboarding climbing, bending, crouching, crawling, , standing, kneeling, walking, sitting, and lifting. These activities will require that the engineer perform these tasks under any weather conditions and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Due to the harvest cycle for algae, longer hours in the summer months will be required.
- Travel will be sporadic on an as needed basis to travel to construction sites or supplier sites to support projects.
- Able to safely lift 50 pounds.
